MDHearingAid VOLT

In this article, we will review the MDHearingAid VOLT rechargeable hearing aid to help you make an informed decision about whether or not these hearing aids are right for you.

How Does The MDHearingAid VOLT Look And How Is It Used?

The MDHearingAid VOLT is a rechargeable behind-the-ear hearing aid. Each hearing aid is labeled right and left, respectively, and comes fitted with clear tubing that runs alongside the ear as well as a rubber tip that fits into the ear canal. Each hearing aid also contains a little plastic hook, which helps to keep it locked in place and thereby prevents it from falling out of your ear.

The top of the MDHearingAid VOLT has a volume switch with three volume levels. Further down on the hearing aid is a button that allows you to toggle among preset programs. Additionally, when the hearing aids are placed in their case, they have a light that comes on to denote how much charge they have stored.

Dr. Ben Thompson shows what the MDHearingAid VOLT looks like and talks about the different benefits and drawbacks of the hearing aid.

Benefits And Drawbacks Of The MDHearingAid VOLT

Benefit #1: Affordability.

The MDHearingAid VOLT retails at a considerably lower price compared to other rechargeable hearing aids on the market

Benefit #2: Form factor.

The MDHearingAid VOLT offers easily adjustable buttons to adjust volume and programs.

Benefit #3: Rechargeable battery.

With a rechargeable hearing aid like the VOLT, you no longer have to mess with replacing small hearing aid batteries. This is a significant feature for older folks or for those with limited vision or reduced finger dexterity.

Drawback #1: Size.

The MDHearingAid VOLT is 30 to 40% larger than some of the top-of-the-line rechargeable hearing aids.

Drawback #2: Limited color options.

At the moment, the MDHearingAid VOLT is only available in one color, which might be less preferable for those with darker skin colors.

Drawback #3: No Bluetooth capability.

Most modern hearing aids offer folks the ability to take phone calls through their devices via Bluetooth. In comparison, the MDHearingAid VOLT cannot take phone calls or stream other audio from music, podcasts, or videos, nor can it be adjusted remotely via smartphone.

Drawback #4: Complicated set-up.

There’s a high risk of not setting up the MDHearingAid VOLT properly if you are tasked with setting it up on your own. With improper setup comes the risk of diminished performance, as well as inadvertent loud noises or whistling, which can occur if there’s a person or object situated close to your ear. Ultimately, it may be necessary to consult the customer support team when setting up the VOLT.

Comparable Products To Consider

The MDHearingAid CORE are online hearing aids that are slightly more expensive than the  MDHearingAid VOLT, while offering better sound quality and smartphone connectivity. The Lexie Lumen hearing aids are around the same price as the MDHearingAid VOLT, while offering more audiology customer service support.
